A switch detects an interruption in the continuous flow of energy, just as it does in any basic electrical device. Throwing the switch up or down or side to side can either open or close that circuit depending on your goals. For most home security devices, it's much easier to use a closed circuit, so that break-ins (and not door or window closings) trigger the signal.

Masking | 遮挡

Masking is the act of physically impairing an intruder alarm from functioning correctly.

Master Manager Code | 主管理员代码

The Master Manager code is used to access the Master Manager menu and arm/disarm the system (depending on permissions). The Master Manager menu has access to all the user codes, time/date settings, the event log and change its own code - amongst other things depending on the panel.

Medical Alarm | 医疗报警

An alarm triggered by the end user where a medical emergency signal is set to pre-programmed source. This could be to a friend/relative or to an ARC where they will proceed with agreed action such as calling emergency authorities.

Mercury Switch | 水银开关

A set of electrical contacts that are opened or closed as a sphere of liquid mercury encompasses them or is removed from them inside a hermetically sealed enclosure. Usually the enclosure is close to switch and in the opposite direction to open it.

Micro-Processor Signal Analysis | 微处理器信号分析

A part of the two-stage detection process, this overcomes false alarms that can occur from the high frequency of a telephone call or the low frequency of a passing lorry. Only when both the ‘shatter’ and the ‘flex’ frequencies of breaking glass are detected will the BreakGlass send a signal to put the system into alarm.

Modem | 调制解调器

A combined device for modulation and demodulation, this will interpret the digital data of a computer to the analogue signal of a telephone line and visa versa.

Module | 模块

This can be used to describe many different things in an alarm system and/or electronics. Two of the main uses of it in an alarm system are:

i) The signalling PCB inside the panel. Any signalling PCB that is PSTN is called a modem whereas all the other mediums are modules.

ii) The part of a dual technology detector that emits the microwave frequency.

Monitored Alarm System | 监控报警系统

An alarm system which reports detected conditions to a monitoring facility. Monitoring facilities are usually located off-site from the protected premises. When a monitoring facility is located within the building or complex that includes the protected premises, the alarm system is called a Proprietary System.
